Pink and Purple Polka Dot Last Day of School Cupcake Tower

Pink & Purple Cupcake Tower

I realize I am a little late posting this, as these cupcakes were ‘ordered’ by youngest sister for the last day of school before summer break.

With her birthday being in August, she is one of those children whose birthdays ALWAYS fall during summer break.

This can be a good thing, but most of the time you do not get to celebrate with friends from school as either most of them or your own family is away on vacation.

So this year she had a special idea for the last school day.

To celebrate the last day of school and the beginning of summer, and also as an early celebration of her birthday she asked if I could make cupcakes for her to share in school.

For her 9 years of age (almost 10) I was really impressed with her professionalism in ‘ordering’. She knew exactly how many students and teachers there were to share with and how many of them were boy or girls.

The pink lined cupcakes were decorated with fondant flowers for the girls and for the boys there were purple ones with sprinkles.

Her flavor requests were chocolate and vanilla cupcakes, as she thought (rightfully so) that most would like those. They were paired with chocolate, vanilla bean, and raspberry buttercream icing.

She also informed me that there are a couple students who cannot eat dairy products. She assumed they would not be able to have a cupcake, but I was able to provide a solution with my vegan chocolate cupcakes and vegan vanilla icing which were safe for them to eat.

From my sister’s accounts the cupcakes were enjoyed by everyone and she really made me proud. Wanting to treat her class mates she thought of me to help with that.

And I am realizing that somewhere along the lines, with her older sister being a cake baker and decorator, she must have picked what is important for ordering cakes. It almost makes me sentimental :)

She is enjoying a great summer so far and is going to celebrate her real birthday really soon. Stay tuned for that.

Toy Train Cake

3D Toy Train Cake

Cole loves trains. So his mom ordered a cake for his second birthday in the shape of a train as well.

It is a three-dimensional cake carved from chocolate fudge cake, filled with cream cheese buttercream, and iced with chocolate buttercream.

The wheels are made from chocolate covered oreo cookies.

Blue, yellow, and red fondant are covering the cake.

The cake board is featuring train tracks from fondant on which the train cake sits.

From the email Cole’s mom sent after the birthday party:

I just wanted to let you know that the Birthday cake for Cole was fabulous!!! You did such a beautiful job and the cake was so moist and full of flavor!

Hot Pink and Lime Green Cascading Flowers Wedding Cake

Pink and Green Wedding Cake

I was looking forward to sharing this cake with you all and am very happy to do so now. The bride’s only specifications were that it be a red velvet cake with cream cheese icing, covered in white fondant with cascading flowers and that the colors were hot pink and lime green.

There were different ideas on my mind of piping buttercream flowers but in the end I decided for gumpaste flowers thinking those would display the vibrant colors best. Also I was looking forward to the opportunity to decorate a cake with a multitude of gumpaste flowers for a while already.

As a sample I was given this page of bridal bouquets in hot pink and lime green made by the talented florists at Sprout. I ended up using as inspiration the flowers they used.

Cascading Gumpaste Flowers

Cascading down the three tiered cake are hot pink roses and rose buds, lime green chrysanthemums, and light pink and baby green filler flowers in bundles and singles.

The tiers are separated with shell borders from white icing. On the top tier thrones a modern bridal couple wedding cake topper.

With the help of my wonderful husband the cake was delivered to the Executive Boardroom, the houseboat where the wedding was held.

I shot a little video of the cake before delivering it to show you more of the details. Definitely I need to work on my video taking skills (tripod next time..) especially for tall cakes, but bear with me. And I will be more than happy to hear any tips or tricks you might have.

Motocross Brand Logos Cake

For her husband’s birthday the customer ordered a cake that would feature the logos of his favorite motocross brands.

It was layered chocolate fudge and vanilla bean cake with milk chocolate buttercream and the whole cake is covered in yellow fondant. The top features the Thor logo with the birthday message.

On the different sides there were logos of Suzuki, Acerbis, Shift, Fox, SixSixOne, and GoPro.

White Water Rafting Cake with Woman in Kayak

This exciting, outdoor adventure cake is featuring a woman made from sugarpaste sitting in a kayak rafting down a river through a rocky landscape.

It was for a young at heart, and very active birthday girl.

The mountain landscape is made from all cake. The flavors were chocolate fudge cake with white chocolate buttercream filling and milk chocolate icing and vanilla bean cake with lemon curd filling and vanilla buttercream icing tinted brown.

There is a wild river and waterfall from blue tinted buttercream going through the mountains.

It is surrounded by fondant evergreen trees and many multi-colored rocks from marbled fondant.

The hand molded figurine has blonde hair with a purple top and is holding wooden paddles while rafting in her hot pink kayak.

Disney Pixar Cars and Tow Mater Cake

This Cars cake was created for Knox’s second birthday. We created several cakes for this family last year among which was a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse First Birthday Cake also for Knox.

This year his birthday was themed around the popular Disney/Pixar movie Cars. The fondant cover of the cake resembles the landscape the movie plays in.

There is the light blue sky with poofy white clouds and rolling hills from marbled brown fondant. Furthermore there are a variety of cactus, rocks, and yellow road signs.

A large Lightning McQueen sits prominently on top of the cake next to an elevated racing flag which includes the birthday message. The cake board is decorated to look like a race track with a small version of Tow Mater and Lightning McQueen.

The video includes more images of the different details:

His mom left this lovely comment on our facebook page:

Your cakes are always the highlight of our parties!!! Thank you SO much!!

Usually I prefer the van for deliveries, but it happened to be that day I had to use my husband’s car (a Porsche 928). This excerpt from the email Knox’s mom sent shows that this coincidence didn’t go unnoticed:

I can’t thank you enough for the AMAZING cake!! the birthday boy LOVES it!! and the Highlight was you delivering it in your fancy little race car :p my older guy is telling everyone that knox is so special that he even had his birthday cake delivered in a REAL RACE CAR!!

:)
