I was approached by friends of ours to create a special cake for their father’s and grandfather’s birthday. They wanted to incorporate two of his passions into the design: salmon fishing and his flower garden.
So I created this in light-blue fondant covered cake with a salmon and flowers on top. The fish is carved from cake, covered in fondant, and painted. The roses, daisies, and carnations are made from gum paste and brushed with pearl dust.
The grass border is piped with green butter cream. Flavors included marble cake with mocha butter cream.
